Summer is here which means its holiday time! Have you ever been half way through your summer vacation and thought to yourself - Did I lock the front door? I think we've all been there. Below you will find great ideas and products on how to keep your home safe while you enjoy your vacation.
1. Get a home monitoring system.
Home security is essential when you’re away for a long period of time. There are so many options to choose from, so which one do you pick? Here are some of our favourites.
2. Install a smart door lock.
Installing a smart door lock will give you that sigh of relief when you have a moment of panic. These locks will let you know if your front door has been opened or locked. Check out a few below that are highly rated!
3. Leave a key with a friend or family member.
Having a trusting friend or family member “house sit” for a week or two will ensure that your home is being kept in its best shape. From watering your plants, to picking up your mail, this will keep you at ease that your home is being taken care of while you’re away.
4. Don’t post it all!
Many of us love to post on social media while on vacation. Just remember that this will show people that your house is empty. Enjoy your vacation social media free and feel free to post your beautiful pictures and videos when you’re back home.
5. Lock up your valuables.
In the worst case scenario that your house does get broken into, thieves will always start in the bedroom for valuables. Treat yourself to a safe to keep your valuable items safe while you’re away. If you can’t get a hold of a safe, hide your expensive items in unusual places likes the kitchen pantry or bathroom closet.
6. Don’t hide a key.
We can’t stress enough the importance to never hide a key under your doormat, in the flower bed or in your mailbox. Thieves know that people do this so it gives them easy access to homes. Be sure that if you do have space key hidden somewhere that it is taken out of that spot before you go on vacation.
7. Install an outdoor timer.
Installing a timer will make it seem like someone is home. Burglars are less likely to try and enter a home when it seems like someone is living there. Timers are relatively cheap and can save you the stress while on vacation.
