3. Leave a key with a friend or family member.
Having a trusting friend or family member “house sit” for a week or two will ensure that your home is being kept in its best shape. From watering your plants, to picking up your mail, this will keep you at ease that your home is being taken care of while you’re away.
4. Don’t post it all!
Many of us love to post on social media while on vacation. Just remember that this will show people that your house is empty. Enjoy your vacation social media free and feel free to post your beautiful pictures and videos when you’re back home.
5. Lock up your valuables.
In the worst case scenario that your house does get broken into, thieves will always start in the bedroom for valuables. Treat yourself to a safe to keep your valuable items safe while you’re away. If you can’t get a hold of a safe, hide your expensive items in unusual places likes the kitchen pantry or bathroom closet.
6. Don’t hide a key.
We can’t stress enough the importance to never hide a key under your doormat, in the flower bed or in your mailbox. Thieves know that people do this so it gives them easy access to homes. Be sure that if you do have space key hidden somewhere that it is taken out of that spot before you go on vacation.
7. Install an outdoor timer.
Installing a timer will make it seem like someone is home. Burglars are less likely to try and enter a home when it seems like someone is living there. Timers are relatively cheap and can save you the stress while on vacation.
